When you send your online application form through, you will get an email to say it’s arrived. We will then forward your form to managers with vacancies in the place and work area you have applied for, and they will choose the candidates they would like to attend one of our recruitment hubs. If you are successful at a recruitment hub you will then be invited to an interview.

If that’s you, we will call to let you know.

What is a recruitment hub?

If your application is successful through the paper sift stage you will be invited to attend a regional recruitment hub closest to the specific vacancy location you are applying for.

This is our opportunity to tell you more about our business and for you to demonstrate your skills and enthusiasm for the role you are applying for, through a mix of individual & team exercises, lasting approximately half a day.

Successful applicants will then be invited to an interview with a BT manager in a local BT office to the vacancy location.

The regional locations for the regional recruitment hub are:-

Warrington, Birmingham, Cardiff, Ipswich, London, Exeter, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Bradford/Leeds.

PLEASE NOTE - If you are successful in being invited to a recruitment hub you must bring the following documentations with you. Unfortunately we will not be able to progress your application any further if the original documents can not be witnessed on the day.

  • Government issued photographic proof of identity, e.g. Current passport or European Economic Area identity card.
  • Government issued proof of entitlement to work in the UK, e.g. Current passport or European Economic Area identity card.
  • Confirmation of current residence, e.g. recent utility bill, bank statement.
  • Driving licence check, including photo card and paper counterpart (where required for the role).
  • Original qualifications certificates (where previously obtained).

Interviews - help!

They are not that bad. Really. We are not trying to catch you out, and we want to give you a chance to prove that you are the right person for the job. But if you are a bit nervous, here are a few things that might help:

First impressions are important

Dress appropriately (i.e. quite smart) and try to arrive a few minutes early so you have time to compose yourself.

Be yourself

Relax and look confident, even if you are not. Take your time - if anything, a short pause for thought is a good thing. And when you do speak, keep to the point and give honest answers to the questions you are asked.

Try to maintain eye contact, listen closely and don't be afraid to ask for an explanation if you don't understand a question.

Do your homework

Do you know why you want to join BT? Do you know what BT is doing at the moment? The more you do your homework on us, the better impression you will make. The area of our website About BT Group has got loads of useful information that will help.

The careers advice service at your school or college may also be able to help. They normally have workshops and booklets on:

  • how to complete application forms
  • how to write CVs
  • interview techniques

You could also visit Prospects (opens in a new window), an easy-to-use career-planning website with helpful hints on stuff like writing CVs.

Plan your questions and answers

Bring a copy of your application form with you to the interview so you can remind yourself what you said. Think of examples you could give at your interview to show off the skills, achievements and experiences you put on your application form. We will be particularly interested in any work experience you have had.

Prepare a list of the questions you want to ask us at your interview. Asking questions is a good way to show that you are well prepared, motivated and enthusiastic about the job you are applying for. These could be about things like: the location of the job, what kind of training you will get, career development opportunities, the company culture, or the technology you will be using.

Plan your journey

Check your travel arrangements and allow plenty of time for delays and mishaps. Remember to bring your National Record of Achievement with you.

Time to reflect

When it's over, remember to ask when you can expect to hear how you have done. Then think about how you performed and what you would do differently next time
