What we do

In the last couple of years, BT has significantly restructured and refocused its IT resources, and now places all its formidable technical expertise - previously spread across the company – into two aligned but separate units that together constitute a powerful single IT resource pool.

BT Design takes responsibility for developing our web-based services, and BT Operate takes care of deploying and operating the resulting systems over the BT network.

Taken together, these two units constitute a new-wave IT and operations business, providing the radical technology needed to turn BT into a global networked IT services company. Our combined expertise pools a deep knowledge of leading-edge network design, IT operations, IT systems and application development supporting BT customers worldwide.

We use the latest agile development methods and techniques. Every project starts with a ‘hot house’ that brings users, developers and customers together to agree the right balance between what’s wanted and what’s possible. IT programmes are run in 90 day cycles, adhering to specific delivery targets and return on investment criteria.

Also, the innovations developed at BT's laboratories at Adastral Park, UK provide both units with a world-class science and engineering base for the design and delivery of our next-generation 21CN converged networks and services.
