Radio

Mesh radio is a high capacity wireless network where information is received and transmitted at broadband speeds via an antenna at your home or office.

Describes the portion of the spectrum used to transmit radio signals. Often used adjectivally.

Radio frequency interference

A characteristic by which signals radiated from one system cause misoperation of another.

RISC

Reduced Instruction-Set Computer/Computing

Compared to CISC processors, RISC chips have smaller, but more, instructions that execute faster. A snag is that they need more memory. See also CISC.

RBOC

Regional Bell operating company

One of the companies providing local telephone service in the USA, created by the divestiture of the old AT&T organisation.

RSA

Rivest, Shamir and Adleman

An asymmetric encryption technique, named after its inventors Rivest, Shamir and Adleman. Based on the assumption that the factoring of the product of two large prime numbers is very difficult.

A modem capable of providing service to more than one computer in your home or office.
